The President has openly endorsed Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, signaling a major shift in the state’s political landscape! Speaking through his Special Adviser, Daniel Bwala, Tinubu emphasized that former Governor Nyesom Wike has been ‘adequately compensated’ and should step aside, allowing Fubara to govern without interference. This bold move reaffirms Fubara as the undisputed leader of the party in Rivers State, and we’re watching to see how this plays out.
A little recap;
The feud between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and former Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has been ongoing, with tensions escalating over control of the state’s political structure. Wike, who handpicked Fubara as his successor, expected loyalty, but Fubara sought autonomy, leading to a power struggle.
Their troubles began when Fubara questioned Wike’s alleged financial mismanagement, specifically the handling of N28 billion in monthly revenue. Wike responded by trying to impeach Fubara, but President Bola Tinubu intervened, brokering a peace deal in June 2025.
However, the truce didn’t hold, and Fubara defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in December 2025, citing Wike’s interference. Wike accused Fubara of reneging on their agreement, while Fubara claimed Wike was trying to control him.
This latest development, with President Tinubu backing Fubara, signals a shift in the state’s power dynamics, leaving Wike’s influence uncertain.
