A big event happened in Asaba, Delta State, to celebrate Professor Pat Utomi’s 70th birthday, a famous economist and expert on politics and management.
The event was about how to reduce poverty in Nigeria and Africa, and how the oil and gas industry can help grow the economy.
At the event which featured important people like traditional leaders, economists, and industry experts, talked about creating jobs for young people, improving the economy and the opportunities in the oil and gas industry.
Professor Utomi wanted to use the event to teach young people about business and job opportunities in the oil industry. He believes empowering young Nigerians with economic knowledge can reduce poverty and unemployment.
Speakers like Dr. Gabriel Ogbechie said the oil and gas sector is profitable and has opportunities for Nigerians.
He advised starting with downstream operations, which is easier to get into.
The event was a mix of talks, panel discussions, and a thanksgiving mass in Ibusa, Delta State.
It was a celebration of Professor Utomi’s life and work, and aimed to inspire young people to explore business opportunities in key sectors.
Among the dignitaries present were the Obi of Onitsha, His Majesty Obi Alfred Achebe; Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi; Founder and Group Managing Director of Rainoil Limited, Dr Gabriel Ogbechie; and respected petroleum industry leaders including Dr Austin Avuru, Deacon Chris Iyovwaye, and Chief Lemon Kpea.
The event also attracted academics, political leaders, and operators from Nigeria’s upstream and downstream oil sectors.
