A suspected Muslim fanatic has reportedly assaulted/harassed a Christian parent, Mr. Edward Anigboro-Brorhie, his spouse, Mrs. Laura Anigboro, and their son, Anigboro-Brorhie Divine Oghenebrukevwe, for identifying as Christians around Hausa Quarters, Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.
It was reliably gathered that in May 2016, Mr. Edward Anigboro-Brorhie, his wife, and their son were maltreated by a group of Muslim fanatics after introducing themselves as Christians.
According to a source, the boy and his parents had gone for a walk in their neighborhood during the early evening alone. The area was quiet at the time, with few people on the streets.
It was learnt that during the walk, they encountered a group of about 5 to 7 men. Based on their dress and the language they spoke—Yoruba and Hausa—they were suspected to be herders.
Narrating the incident, the source who pleaded anonymity said, “When they saw the family, they asked if they were Christians. The father replied that they were, and the group began questioning their beliefs and making derogatory comments.”
“The parents responded, stating they were not inferior to anyone. The men became angry, and one of them slapped the young boy. The mother advised her husband not to retaliate, but he punched the attacker in defense, which led the group to begin beating him.”
“The man tried to reason with them, but they wouldn’t listen. Even though the boy was very young, he intervened, apologized for his father’s reaction, and pleaded with the men, saying they should try to see eye to eye and not fight in the streets.”
“Maybe they were surprised that he spoke up, but for whatever reason, the group stopped and walked away.”
The source added that Divine and his parents left the area immediately after the confrontation. Details about what happened afterward remain unclear, but the incident was described as distressing and disturbing.
