The Chairman of Bomadi Local Government Area in Delta State, Rawlings Dagidi Andaye, has warned ritualists and criminals to stay away from the area after a shocking attack on a 60-year-old woman.
The victim, Esther Bolozimor, was reportedly attacked along Akepe Road about two weeks ago. She narrowly escaped being beheaded after a passerby heard her cries and rushed to rescue her.
Reacting to the incident, Andaye said security agencies have been put on alert to track down those responsible.
He stressed that his administration will not allow crime to take over the community.
He explained that local vigilante groups have been strengthened to work with the police and other security agencies to protect residents.
The chairman also revealed that he sometimes joins security patrols himself.
Following the attack, an emergency security meeting was held, and new measures have been introduced to prevent such incidents from happening again.
Andaye added that the council has visited the victim in the hospital and is paying for her treatment.
He warned criminals to leave Bomadi, saying the area will no longer be safe for illegal activities.
Meanwhile, the leader of the vigilante group, Clement Tikpa, said efforts are ongoing to arrest the suspects and hand them over to the police.
Authorities say the new security efforts are aimed at restoring peace and keeping residents safe.
