The Delta State Police Command has rolled out a statewide security operation to boost safety, tackle crime, and maintain peace across the state.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the move follows a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, mandating all commands to strengthen visibility policing and adopt intelligence-driven strategies.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has ordered the massive deployment of officers across all nine Area Commands, divisions, and key locations in the state.
The operation includes stop-and-search duties on major roads, intensified patrols during the day and night, and joint operations with other security agencies.
The Command also revealed that special attention is being given to crime-prone areas such as Owa-Oyibu, Ogwashi-Uku power line axis, Okpanam, Ashaka, Ovwero in Ughelli North, Umunede, Igbodo, Idumusa, and Ute, as well as other border communities.
Police said the targeted operations are aimed at dismantling kidnapping syndicates, curbing herdsmen-related crimes, and clearing criminal hideouts.
In addition, Area Commanders have been directed to hold town hall meetings with community leaders to improve intelligence gathering and strengthen cooperation between the police and residents.
The Command assured the public of its commitment to protecting lives and property while urging residents to remain vigilant and support ongoing security efforts.
