Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas has been conferred with the prestigious title of Ibetariwei by the Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Oboro-Gbaraun II (Agadagba), in recognition of his leadership and service.
The honour was bestowed on Saturday in Oporoza during the grand finale of the annual Amaseikumor Festival, a major cultural celebration in the kingdom.
The title reflects the senator’s performance in representing Delta South Senatorial District and his commitment to the welfare and development of the Ijaw people.
The ceremony drew a large crowd of dignitaries, including traditional rulers, lawmakers, political stakeholders, and community leaders, who gathered to celebrate the recognition.
Speaking after receiving the honour, Onowakpo thanked the Pere and the people of Gbaramatu Kingdom, describing the award as a call to do more.
He pledged to continue pushing for development in Delta South, attract meaningful projects, and improve the lives of his constituents.
