The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State has successfully conducted its LGA, ward, and unit congresses despite an attempted disruption by suspected thugs.
The congress, held on April 9, 2026, at Afiesere Primary School in Afiesere, brought together party members from all eleven wards in the LGA. Party leaders confirmed that the exercise went on as planned and produced new executives to lead the party at various levels for the next four years.
Speaking at the event, a chieftain of the party, Hon. (Arch.) Julius Akpovoka Efeni, said the congress followed due process in line with the party’s constitution. He moved a motion for the dissolution of the previous executives at the ward, LGA, and unit levels to allow for the emergence of new leadership.
Akpovoka also urged the newly elected executives to remain committed to the growth and development of the party, adding that their role is key to delivering democratic dividends.
During the exercise, a group of individuals alleged to be thugs reportedly attempted to disrupt proceedings and carted away party membership cards.
However, party officials said the situation was quickly brought under control, allowing the congress to continue successfully.
The newly elected LGA executives include Moses Ojanoma as Chairman, Ese David as Vice Chairman, and Akpobasah Ogheneakporobor as Secretary-General, among others.
Addressing journalists after the congress, Akpovoka alleged that the disruption was carried out by individuals linked to the Ughelli North LGA Chairman, Hon. Chief Jaro Egbo, though this claim was not independently verified.
He further alleged that the same group vandalized his filling station in Afiesere, destroying equipment worth over ₦20 million and making away with about ₦7 million in cash.
According to him, the matter has been reported to security agencies for investigation. He expressed confidence that those responsible would be brought to justice.
Akpovoka, however, called on party members to remain united and committed, describing the incident as a sign of the party’s growing strength ahead of the 2027 elections.
