Senator Ede Dafinone has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Delta State Deputy Governor, Benjamin Elue, who passed away at the age of 85.
In a tribute released on Sunday, Dafinone described the late statesman as humble, disciplined, and committed to the stability of Delta State’s democracy.
Elue served as Deputy Governor of Delta State from 1999 to 2007 alongside former Governor James Ibori.
According to Dafinone, his tenure came at a crucial time in the state’s democratic development.
The senator noted that Elue’s calm nature, loyalty, and respect for due process helped maintain stability in the executive arm of government during a period when many young democracies faced internal political conflicts.
“Chief Elue carried the burden of leadership with grace and wisdom,” Dafinone said, adding that the former deputy governor showed that loyalty in governance is a strength when built on shared vision and mutual respect.
Dafinone further described Elue as a leader who believed in strong institutions, inclusive governance, and teamwork rather than confrontation.
He said the late deputy governor always placed service above personal ambition.
On behalf of the people of Delta Central Senatorial District, the senator extended condolences to Elue’s wife, Lady Esther Onyebuchi Elue, his family, the Delta State Government, political associates, and the people of Aniocha North.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of the former deputy governor’s soul and urged present and future leaders to learn from his example of unity, discipline, and selfless service.
