The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has directed massive security deployment across the state ahead of the Easter celebration, warning officers against extortion and unprofessional conduct.
The directive was given during a strategic security meeting with Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, State Intelligence Department (SID) personnel, and women police officers from the nine Area Commands.
CP Oyeniyi said the Command has put in place strong measures to ensure a peaceful and crime-free Easter, especially around churches and other places of worship. He assured residents of their safety during and after the festive period.
The police boss stressed the need for proactive and intelligence-led policing, urging officers to be vigilant and work closely with the public.
He reminded them that their duty is to protect lives and property while respecting human rights.
He warned officers to avoid extortion, harassment, and any form of misconduct, adding that the Command has zero tolerance for extra-judicial actions.
According to him, all suspects must be treated lawfully and charged to court where necessary.
On crime prevention, the CP ordered sustained patrols and quick response to incidents, noting that visible policing helps deter criminals.
He also tasked intelligence officers to provide timely and useful information to support operations.
Addressing rising concerns, CP Oyeniyi described drug abuse and trafficking as serious threats and called for focused, intelligence-driven operations to tackle them.
He also directed the Area Commander in Asaba to address cases of house-to-house theft in the city.
The Commissioner further encouraged women police officers to maintain professionalism and show empathy, especially in their roles at charge rooms and front desks where they interact directly with the public.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to discipline, accountability, and people-friendly policing across Delta State.
