Suspected terrorists have attacked a community in Kaduna State during Easter celebrations, killing at least seven people and abducting several others.
The incident happened early Sunday morning in Ariko village, located in Kachia Local Government Area.
The attackers reportedly stormed two churches—First ECWA Church and St. Augustine Catholic Church—while worshippers were gathered.
According to the councillor representing Awon Ward, Mark Bawa, the number of those killed is still unclear, with reports ranging between seven and eight victims.
He said he was heading to the area to get accurate details.
Bawa explained that the gunmen arrived in large numbers, surrounded the community, and opened fire on people. Many residents were killed on the spot, while others were taken away into the bush.
He also noted that poor communication networks in the area may have delayed a quick response to the attack.
Residents said the attackers operated for a long time without any resistance, raising concerns about the safety of rural communities.
As of the time of this report, the police in Kaduna State have not released any official statement on the incident.
