The 2026 Niger Delta Sports Festival is coming to Edo State, and organizers are serious about fair play. Managing Consultant Sir Itiako Ikpokpo has declared zero tolerance for age cheating and doping.
The festival, happening Feb 20-27, 2026, aims to revive grassroots sports in the Niger Delta region.
“Many states have abandoned talent discovery for athlete poaching,” Ikpokpo said. “We want to nurture local talents, not cheat.”
To ensure fairness, the age limit has been reduced from 25 to 20 years. “We want athletes to compete honestly, not rely on tricks,” Ikpokpo said.
The festival will also celebrate arts and culture, promoting unity and development in the region.
With over 3,000 athletes expected, preparations are underway as Local government trials will commence next week, followed by state trials.
The goal is to restore the Niger Delta’s sporting spirit and create sustainable pathways for young athletes.
