Today, President Tinubu signed the Electricity Act (Amendment) Bill 2025 into law, which removes electricity from the Exclusive Legislative List of the Nigerian Constitution and gives state governments greater authority over electricity generation, transmission, distribution, and regulation.
In clear language, if your state doesn’t have electricity, blame your governor. They now have the power to generate and distribute electricity, unlike before when it was solely the Federal Government’s responsibility.
