The Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria and Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, on Thursday led a delegation of lawmakers to Zuru, Kebbi State, to attend the burial of the late Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Usman Mohammed Ankwai.
Ankwai died on Monday in Cairo, Egypt, after a brief illness. His remains were flown into Abuja and subsequently conveyed to his hometown, Zuru, for burial in line with Islamic rites.
At the airstrip reception, the Kebbi State Deputy Governor, Abubakar Umar Argungu, led the state government delegation that received the body before it was moved in a motorcade to the late Speaker’s residence.
Guwor, accompanied by other Speakers and former lawmakers, participated in the burial rites and extended condolences to the bereaved family, praying for strength to bear the loss.
The delegation also paid a condolence visit to Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, where Guwor described Ankwai’s death as tragic and prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul.
In his response, Governor Idris thanked the delegation for their solidarity, noting that their presence reflected unity and brotherhood during the state’s moment of grief.
