The Delta State Police Command has arrested the chief organiser of a controversial festival in Ozoro, Chief Omorede Sunday, along with four other suspects after disturbing videos surfaced online.
The videos showed cases of sexual assault and molestation of young women in Oramudu quarters, Isoko North Local Government Area, sparking outrage.
In a statement on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, said the command received the footage with serious concern, describing the acts as criminal and inhumane.
Following the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, ordered an immediate investigation. This led to the arrest of the organiser and other suspects linked to the incident.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
Police teams have also been deployed to track down other individuals involved, with a promise that all offenders will be brought to justice.
The command urged victims and witnesses to come forward with useful information, assuring them of confidentiality.
The arrests come after reports that several women were attacked during the festival.
Traditionally, women are expected to remain indoors during parts of the celebration, but reports say those seen outside were allegedly assaulted.
The incident has raised serious concerns, especially for female students and visitors in Ozoro.
