The Delta State Police Command has foiled a planned cult attack and dismantled armed robbery networks in Warri, Ughelli and Sapele, arresting suspects and recovering three firearms with 27 live cartridges.
The operations were carried out through intelligence-led raids by special police teams across the three cities.
Arrest in Ughelli
On February 27, 2026, at about 11:35 p.m., operatives of the CP-Special Assignment Team led by ASP Julius Robinson stormed the Ekredjebor area of Ughelli and arrested Oghenemaro Festus of Upper Agbarho.
Police recovered a pump-action gun loaded with two live cartridges from him. He is suspected to be linked to a series of house-to-house robberies that have troubled residents in the area.
Efforts are ongoing to arrest other gang members still at large.
Also, robbery Suspect Nabbed in Sapele following complaints by residents about repeated robberies by a motorcycle-riding gang in Sapele, the police carried out a targeted operation in the early hours of March 1, 2026.
At about 3:35 a.m., Prince Omanure, also known as “Anini,” aged 21, was arrested in the Ghana Area of Sapele.
During interrogation, he led officers to a bush along the Warri–Sapele Road near the Trailer Park, where a fabricated Beretta pistol loaded with eight rounds of live ammunition was hidden.
The suspect has given useful information, and police are tracking other members of the syndicate.
Cultists Arrested in Warri
In a separate operation on February 27, 2026, at about 9:14 a.m., operatives of the Quick Response Squad led by SP Achem Collins raided a building on Okwagbe Street, Igbudu, Warri.
The raid followed credible intelligence that members of a notorious cult group were planning attacks in Warri and surrounding areas.
On sighting the police, some suspects fled, but three were arrested: Nelson Mudiagha (aka Diara), Efe Nyore and Ebube Ifeanyi.
A search of the building led to the recovery of a cut-to-size locally made double-barrel gun and 17 live cartridges concealed inside the premises.
The suspects reportedly confessed to being members of the Black Axe Confraternity, also known as Ayes.
Investigation is ongoing as police intensify efforts to arrest other fleeing members.
Police Assure Residents
The Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, assured residents that protecting law-abiding citizens remains the Command’s top priority.
He reiterated that the police will continue to clamp down on cult groups, armed robbery gangs and other violent criminal networks operating across Delta State.
