The ancient Warri Kingdom on Thursday conferred the prestigious title of Utukpa-Oritse of Warri Kingdom on Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, in a grand royal ceremony.
The investiture was performed by Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri, who described the honour as a symbolic homecoming for the First Lady, whose maternal roots trace back to the Itsekiri nation.
Speaking at the palace, the monarch said the title recognises heritage, service and national representation.
He noted that Senator Tinubu’s public service has brought pride to the Itsekiri people and the Warri Kingdom.
As part of the ceremony, the First Lady was also inducted into the Royal Order of Iwere (ROI), the kingdom’s second-highest honour reserved for distinguished sons, daughters and allies.
In her remarks, Senator Tinubu described the recognition as emotional and deeply meaningful. She thanked the royal institution and the Itsekiri people, pledging to continue serving Nigeria with humility and compassion.
The event attracted prominent dignitaries, including Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, and the Benjamin Ikenchukwu Keagborekuzi I, alongside other royal fathers and government officials.
Observers say the ceremony highlights the enduring cultural influence of the Warri Kingdom and the strengthening relationship between traditional institutions and national leadership.
