Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria and Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has commended Nigerian women for their resilience, strength, and dedication to promoting peace and development as they celebrate the 2026 International Women’s Day.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Nkem Nwaeke, Guwor congratulated women across the country and noted that they have continued to play important roles in peacebuilding, conflict resolution, and community development.
He said women have made significant contributions to shaping a more peaceful and progressive society, adding that their efforts in families, communities, and the nation at large remain invaluable.
“We celebrate the incredible contributions women make to our societies, communities, and families. Your tireless efforts in shaping the future of our nation and the world are invaluable,” he said.
Guwor urged women to continue serving as agents of positive change by promoting unity, tolerance, and understanding in their communities.
He assured that the Conference of Speakers would continue to support policies and programmes that promote gender equality, women’s empowerment, and development.
The Speaker described the theme of the 2026 celebration,
“Rights, Justice, Action for All Women and Girls,” with the campaign slogan “Give to Gain,” as timely, noting that it highlights the need to defend women’s rights, close justice gaps, and promote gender equality.
He also called for collective efforts to address challenges such as gender-based violence, inequality, and discrimination while ensuring women have equal opportunities to contribute to national development.
Guwor encouraged women to keep breaking barriers and striving for excellence, stressing that their role in shaping the future of the nation cannot be overstated.
