Rev. Anthony Ogugu, an aspirant for the Delta State House of Assembly representing Ughelli North Constituency II, has explained his desire to be part of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration in 2027, saying it is driven by his passion to contribute to the development of Delta State and improve the lives of his people.
He made this known during a free fuel distribution exercise for Okada and Keke riders in Ughelli North Local Government Area, an initiative aimed at easing the economic burden on local transport operators.
Speaking at the event, tagged “Community Fuel Relief Program for Okada and Keke Riders,” Rev. Ogugu said the outreach is part of his long-standing humanitarian efforts to support residents.
According to him, the rising cost of fuel from about ₦860 to over ₦1,300 per litre has made life difficult for small business owners, especially transport workers.
He advised beneficiaries to make good use of the fuel to sustain their businesses and support their families.
Rev. Ogugu noted that feedback from beneficiaries, including one rider who said he could make up to ₦6,000 from the fuel received, has strengthened his resolve to do more.
The aspirant added that his ambition to join the Delta State House of Assembly is to expand such initiatives and attract more development to his constituency.
He also praised Governor Oborevwori for his visible ongoing infrastructural projects across the state, saying he is motivated to be part of the progress.
Beneficiaries of the programme expressed appreciation for the gesture.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Sunday, said the fuel would significantly support his daily business, while Mrs. Celestina Uwaifo described the initiative as unprecedented in over a decade.
Rev. Ogugu’s efforts are part of his broader community support activities, which include football tournaments and free medical outreach programmes across several communities in Ughelli North and Ethiope West.
Organizers say the fuel distribution exercise will continue in other areas, including Uwheru and surrounding communities.
